SHM Direct head for the trees!Southwater Infant Academy recently planted trees to celebrate FSC® Friday, a worldwide celebration of sustainable forestry and wood. The event, arranged by Margaret Dawson at Scandia Hus Manufacturing Ltd, saw 12 spruce tree seedlings planted in the Academy’s grounds, by the 12 members of the school’s Eco Team.
The tree seedlings are just a few of over 100 million new trees brought into growth by SCA Timber Supply at its tree nurseries in Sweden. SCA’s forests in Sweden cover an area equivalent to 3.5 million football pitches. The company grows and processes certified, sustainable timber, which it brings into Britain for the construction and joinery sectors.
Present at the planting, and presenting to the children, were Lee Heitzman of SCA Timber Supply and Margaret Dawson Retail Manager of Scandia Hus. Southwater Infant Academy were presented with a tree planting certificate and a poster about trees and wood from Scandia Hus Manufacturing Ltd., to mark the occasion.
“We spent an enjoyable morning with the children, explaining about our re-planting policy” said Margaret. ” It was good to instill in the children the plan that we have as a company, to ensure that when a tree is felled for Timber, two are planted in it’s place” explained Margaret. “This will ensure that our policies provide for a sustainable future for generations to come”.
