Margaret Dawson, Retail Manager from Scandia Hus Manufacturing Ltd., spent a delightful morning planting trees at Southwater Infant Academy with Lee Heitzman of SCA, in celebration of FSC Friday at the end of October.
Margaret and Lee assisted the children in planting Spruce Tree seedlings from SCA’s Bogrundet tree nursery in Sweden – some of the approximately 100m seedlings brought into growth by SCA Timber suppliers, this year.
Presentations on sustainable forestry and wood products were given to the children at School Assembly, followed by plantings with 6 members of the school’s Eco Team.
“It was a great opportunity for us to connect with the local community,” said Margaret Dawson, Retail Manager at Scandia Hus Manufacturing Ltd. “We’ve had great feedback from the school”. “It was a fun learning process for the children”.
“We wanted the children to learn and appreciate just how long it would take a young sapling to grow”. “We explained to the children, that when a tree is harvested, our company policy insists that two new saplings are planted in place”. “This will ensure that we follow a plan, for a truly sustainable future for forward generations to enjoy”.
“Scandia Hus is fully committed to reducing the environmental and carbon impact of construction through continual improvement. Events like the tree planting give us an opportunity to educate all those who come into contact with the construction sector through education, and encourage them to do the same.”
This is the third year that SCA has invited selected merchant customers to join in celebrating certified wood and forests for FSC Friday; the annual event itself has been organised since 2008.
